It is that time of year again! Time to winterize your irrigation system. This is a project we would not recommend for the average “do-it-yourselfer”. To blow the water out of the pipes you will need an air compressor, but it can’t be just any air compressor. It needs to be a BIG air compressor. Probably bigger than the compressor you already own. That high pressure, low volume compressor you use in your garage is not the right compressor to use. Here at Nature’s Touch Landscaping we use a large gas powered compressor that can discharge over 185 cubic feet per minute of air and can blow out a pipe as large as 3″ diameter. CFM, (Cubic feet per minute) is how much air a compressor can move, and PSI, (pounds per square inch), is how much pressure. The small homeowner’s style compressors have too low of CFM to effectively blowout the sprinklers. Some “do-it-yourselfers” try to make up for this shortcoming by cranking up the PSI, which could possibly launch one of the sprinkler heads into the air like a bottle rocket! You could be the proud owner of a bunch of buried plastic shards instead of a sprinkler system! This is one of the items on your “to-do” list that you want to leave for a professional. Nature’s Touch Landscaping does Blowouts for $45. Call and ask us about our neighborhood discount! 763-566-8457.
